A guilt-ridden grandson struggles to break the truth of his grandfather's death to his sibling; but as his late-grandfather's viewing comes near, he must re-discover his place in the family in order to move on.

In the final months of 2020, a peak of Covid-related deaths was reached in the United States. With many unable to physically be there with loved ones in their final moments, the pain of grief was deepened by collective social distancing and strict policies that kept families apart.

Avelino is a short film about those who grieved, and passed away, alone - inspired by the truth found at the end of that grief: no matter how isolated we feel in life and death, we're never truly alone.

The film explores what gets left behind in the midst of sudden passing, but more importantly, what must carry on.

Centered around two Filipino-American siblings, the film is directed by Vallejo-based director Neil Rayos, with cinematography by multiple award-winner Tony Holman.

It is the debut short film project for Mamacre Entertainment, founded by producer and artist Brandon Matel.

It is the first screenplay by writer Jerrel Ramos.
